Apple’s Mac saw its worldwide market share increase in the first quarter of 2017, according to reports from the Gartner and IDCresearch groups.
According to Gartner, Apple sold approximately 4.2 million Macs in the quarter, compared to about four million in the year ago period for 6.8% market share. Ahead of Apple in worldwide market share are Lenovo (19.9% market share), HP (19.5% market share), Dell (15% market share), and Asus (7.3% market share).
In the U.S., Gartner says Apple is in fourth place with 12% market share on first quarter sales of almost 1.5 million (down 0.9% year-over-year). Ahead of the company in the U.S. are HP (29.1% market share), Dell (26.4% market share) and Lenovo (14% market share).
According to IDC, Apple sold approximately 4.2 million Macs in the quarter, compared to about four million in the year ago period for 7% market share. Ahead of Apple in worldwide market share are HP (21.8% market share), Lenovo(20.4% market share), and Dell (15.9% market share). IDC didn’t list U.S. rankings in its report.
Note that neither research group includes iPads, though both count Microsoft Surface devices.
