Notable apps and app updates for March 27, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

Sun And Moon Apps has debuted Hero! 1.0. In the free game, you’re the hero of your choice. Decide from a range of different characters as you journey through the unknown. You must find the key to unlock the dungeon door and escape. Along your way you must battle different types of enemies that can jump and shoot. The better you get with your sling blade the better your chances of escaping the dungeon alive.

Nexx Studio has debuted Temple Jump 1.0. It’s a retro-flavored pixel art game in which players must jump from platform to platform while collecting precious gems. They must make their way through the lava-filled temple of doom. Players must avoid classic video games dangers, including dangerous fireballs and killer spikes, while in search of the rare golden wings.

Temple Jump 1.0 is free. In-app purchases are available to remove advertisements ($1.99) and to buy in-game currency that can be used to help unlock 33 gameplay characters ($0.99 – $3.99)

Alt Cult has introduced Happy Medium 1.0. It’s a free social media app centered on community, culture, and events. Happy Medium features events and building grassroots communities in the greater Los Angeles area and will expand as the community grows.

macOS Apps/Updates

iMobie has released PhoneClean 5, an update to their Mac utility for to removing all iPhone data permanently.

Before giving away or selling your old iPhone, the utility permanently wipes everything in it for absolute safety, including photos, messages, contacts, emails, browsing data, as well as your custom wallpaper, ringtones, and more. It also allows you to selectively eliminate sensitive data. Version 5.0 sports a new user interface and an Erase Clean feature.

PhoneClean runs on both macOS and Windows system. There’s a free version for basic cleanup and a pro version for more advanced solutions. The latter costs $29.99 for a personal license and $39.99 for a family license from iMobie’s online store.

Zevrix Solutions has announced Package Central 1.9.17, a maintenance update to its packaging workflow automation tool for Adobe InDesign.

The app automatically collects InDesign documents along with their fonts and links from watched hot folders and offers customizable workflows, variable folder names, email notifications, preflighting and more. Version 1.9.17 addresses some stability and performance issues related to email delivery, metadata retrieval, and UI updates during error processing.

Package Central can be purchased for $149.95 from the Zevrix website, as well as from authorized resellers. A demo is available for download. Package Central requires macOS 10.7-10.12 and Adobe InDesign CS5-CC 2017.

Hyperbolic Software has revved DupeZap, their modern duplicate finder developed exclusively for macOS, to version 4. The update was written specifically to reclaim disk space being taken up by duplicate files and packages.

Version 4.0 of DupeZap 4 requires macOS 10.11.0 or later. For a limited time, it’s available for $0.99 instead of the regular $19.99 at the Mac App Store.

ProjectWizards have conjured up Merlin Project 4.2, an update to their project management software for macOS.

Project managers who use multiple devices, or who work in small working groups, can now keep their projects updated via iCloud Drive or Dropbox — even if they’re not running Merlin Server themselves. What’s more, Merlin Project 4.2 synchronizes all changes automatically, making them available to every project participant.

Merlin Project 4.2 is free for any licensed Merlin Project 3 or Merlin Project 4 user to update to version 4.2. The latest version of Merlin Project Go will be made available automatically via the Mac App Store. If you’re a project manager and you’re interested in trying out Merlin Project 4.2 for Mac, you test drive it for 30 days.
