Apple releases Supplier Responsibility report, showing solid progress

Apple today released its annual Supplier Responsibility report, publishing insights into how well its manufacturing partners treat workers and the environment. For 2016, the report shows that compliance with the 60-hour maximum work week for employees is up to 98 percent — the highest level ever.

In the realm of environmental compliance, Apple’s suppliers reduced carbon emissions by 150,000 metric tons — equivalent to taking 31,000 cars off roads for a year — in 2016 alone and have saved 3.8 billion gallons of fresh water since 2013.

The company performed 705 audits of suppliers in 2016, up from 574 in 2015. The assessments resulted in the removal of three suppliers from the Apple supply chain as they did not meet labor, health and safety, or environmental standards.
