Apple will launch a special 10th anniversary edition of the iPhone that will cost more than $1,000, according to Fast Company, quoting an unnamed “source with knowledge of Apple’s plans.”
I think this is true, though it’s not particularly shocking since the 256GB of the iPhone 7 Plus costs $969. Fast Company says the 2017 Apple smartphone — which may be dubbed the “iPhone 8” (the logical naming progression) or the “iPhone X” (in honor of the smartphone’s 10th birthday) — will sport a new 5.—inch OLED display, “which is said to look great and stretch across the whole front of the phone” but “will probably cost Apple roughly twice as much as the LCD display used in current iPhones.”
Fast Company says the iPhone X will also:
- Look something like a smooth black monolith, with few visual interruptions to its sleek design;
- Have sides made of forged stainless steel;
- Have a back made of glass instead of metal;
- Possibly offer face recognition for use identification;
- Have a bigger battery than the iPhone 7 line-up;
- Possibly remove the physical Home button, relocating it underneath the display surface as a button to touch, not press;
- Possibly do away with the physical buttons on the side of the iPhone, replacing them with touch-sensitive inlays in the metal;
- Possibly sport new 3D-sensing tech that could be used for an augmented reality app.
