Well, this ain’t good, and will only add to cries that Apple once again start making its own external displays for use with Mac laptops: the tech giant has temporarily stopped sales of LG’s UltraFine 5K monitor, due to problems associated with a lack of proper shielding from wireless interference. Apple retail staff were told to keep the product on display yet not sell any units if people asked, according to a Business Insider source.
Recently, 9to5Mac reported that the LG UltraFine 5K Display can be effectively unusable if placed near a Wi-Fi router with some kind of radio interference causing the monitor to regularly black out and hang the connected MacBook Pro. LG says it’s identified the hardware problem in which Wi-Fi routers within two feet of the display may result in signal interference issues — although, as I reported — so far I’ve not encountered the problem.
Last week it was reported that new orders for the LG UltraFine 5K Display will now ship out in five to six weeks with fixes to a reported issue with router. Now it looks like that time frame will be extended.
