Apple plans to open its first retail store in South Korea. The Cupertino, California-based company has listed hiring notices for 15 positions on its website, including a store leader and business manager.
Construction is underway in a southern district of Seoul, according to the Yonhap News Agency. The article says that the work will likely be completed by the end of November.
Speaking of Apple retail stores, Apple has locked in a deal for its next Brooklyn store location – at the base of Two Trees Management’s new 32-story mixed-use tower 300 Ashland in Fort Greene, according to The Real Deal, a site that focuses on New York real estate news. The iPhone/Mac maker inked a 10-year lease for about 12,000 square feet at the 500,000-square-foot property at 300 Ashland Place, formerly known as BAM South, sources told the publication.
The deal had been in the works for some time: Negotiations began almost three years ago when Apple first checked out the site. Since then, Apple signed a lease for its first Brooklyn store – at 247 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg – which finally opened in July.
Finally, in June 2015 it was reported that Apple would renovate its iconic Fifth Avenue retail store, temporarily relocating its operations to the vacated FAO Schwarz toy store in the General Motors Building. A MacRumors reader has now spotted a new sign in front of the iconic store that reveals the relocation will happen on January 20.
Apple has 490 retail stores in 22 countries and an online store available in 39 countries.
