Apple is rising the prices for apps and in-app purchases at its app stores in some countries following changes to exchange rates and taxation policy. 9to5Mac reports that customers in India, Turkey and the United Kingdom will see price increases.
In the United Kingdom, Apple is raising the prices for apps and in-app purchases by around 25%, in light of the weak pound exchange rate. In India, a service tax of 14% as well as levies of 0.5% were introduced by the government on Dec. 1, 2016. In Romania, the tax rate has increased from 19% to 20%. In Russia, a value added tax (VAT) rate of 18% has been introduced. Apple will submit the collected revenue to authorities on developers’ behalf.
Apple is notifying developers with specific reference to the iOS and Mac app stores but it is likely that the same increases will also hit the iTunes Store for TV shows, movies and books, notes 9to5Mac.
