Apple reportedly in talks to manufacture in India

Apple is reportedly discussing with the Indian government the possibility of manufacturing its products in the country. In a November letter, the Cupertino, California-based comps y outlined its plans and sought financial incentives to move ahead, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Making goods such as iPhones locally would allow Apple to open its own stores in India, helping build its brand in a country where it has less than 5% of a booming smartphone market. Getting a foothold in India has been a challenge for Apple. The company has opened its retail stores in a number of countries around the world, but not in India. The country has restrictive real estate investment laws for foreign companies.
