New MacBook Pros spur notebook shipment growth for Apple

Apple’s new MacBook Pros have gotten some negative feedback (see my review on Monday), but their hardware upgrades and new Touch Bar are expected to make them hot sellers. In fact, with the shipment growth, Apple is expected to return as the fourth largest vendor worldwide in the fourth quarter, according to the DigiTimes Research Group.

Combined shipments of US-based top-tier vendors – HP, Dell and Apple – will account for over 50% of worldwide shipments, notes DigiTimes. Although Chromebooks and China-based brand vendors are expected to perform weakly in the quarter, worldwide notebook shipments are estimated to reach 41.65 million units in the fourth quarter, up 6.4% sequentially thanks to, in part, demand from the year-end holidays is expected to pick up strongly.
