Investment company thinks Apple preparing is preparing custom chips for 2018 Mac laptops

According to TheStreet, analysts at the investment company Exane BNP Paribas think Apple is tooling up to create custom chips for its next generation of Mac laptops.

Apple is advertising 87 hardware engineering graphics roles, including 10 in London, according to Exane. A search of Apple’s website found 62 of those roles, including eight in Apple’s Hanover Street office in London.

The graphics job vacancies suggest that Apple is building a completely new chip design team, which in our experience points to a new application,” Exane analysts David O’Conner and Jerome Ramel wrote in a note published Wednesday. “The need for computing, CPU and/or GPU skills could point to a custom Apple chip for the Apple MacBook. it is entirely plausible that Apple could produce a beefed up 7mm apps processor … capable of powering a MacBook in 2018.”
