Apple Pay on the web is the fifth most popular online payment platform

Just over a month after launching Apple Pay on the web, new data from SimilarTech — as noted by 9to5Mac — shows Apple has already made it into the top five payment technologies online.

SimilarTech is a website profiler, lead generation, competitive analysis and business intelligence tool providing technology adoption and usage analytics for the Internet. By adding web payment support, Mac users will be able to pay online in Safari using a “Pay with Apple Pay” button, and authenticate their purchase using Touch ID on their phone or watch.

Previously, Apple Pay could only be used via some iOS apps or in a few selected retail stores. Also, iOS 10 added the option to use Apple Pay within Safari. So, when you check out online with Apple Pay, you’ll touch your finger on the home button to complete the transaction.

SimilarTech’s platform tracks over 30 billion webpages monthly. Apple Pay is now the fifth most popular payment platform used by the top 10,000 websites.
