Apple has brought its universal search feature for the fourth-generation Apple TV to five new countries and has added more supported services in the U.S. and Australia, according to AppleInsider.
The new countries are Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands. AppleInsider notes that, at the moment their local search results mention only iTunes movies and Netflix (even iTunes TV shows aren’t covered). Australia has gained ABC iview and Plus7. In the U.S., results will now include The CW.
Universal search allows users to find content across multiple apps and services using text or Siri voice search. When it debuted, universal search only worked with iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Showtime, but Apple promised to expand the feature.
The universal search feature uses Siri, the voice-activated “digital assistant,” and enables searches across multiple streaming video services as well as the iTunes Store. Instead of searching the catalogs of multiple video services one at a time for a particular movie or show, you can search all simultaneously, then choose the service on which you’d like to watch it. You can also search for actors, directors, and more.
