According to DigiTimes Intel has begun delivering its next-generation notebookuse Kaby Lake processors and will start shipping comparable desktop-use CPUs by year-end 2016.
If the publication is right, and Apple gets its hands on some of the first orders, we should see Mac laptops and desktops using the latest chips by the holidays. I’m predicting that Apple will announce new MacBook Pros and iMacs in October with sales starting as soon as the new machines can equipped with Kaby Lake processors. (It’s possible that new Macs will be announced at Wednesday’s media event, but I’m doubtful. When it comes to hardware, I’m only anticipating new iPhones and Apple Watches this week.)
The processors are the successor to the Skylake line of chips. Built on an improved 14nm process, Kaby Lake features, of course, faster CPU clock speed changes. It also features a new graphics architecture to improve performance in 3D graphics and 4K video playback.
