Nintendo’s Mario coming to the iPhone and iPad

Nintendo’s Mario character is coming to the iPhone and iPad in a new game called Mario Run. It’s coming in time for the holidays, but pricing hasn’t yet been announced. You can play the game one-handed and engage in a new battle mode called Toad Battle.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, over 140 billion apps have been downloaded from the Apple App Store. He says that users’ love affair with iPhone and iPad apps are as strong as ever. Cook says that the store generates 2x more global revenue than the closest competitor.

“The iPhone and iPad are the most popular gaming devices in the world,” he adds. “Gaming is the biggest and most popular category on the Apple App Store: there are over 500,000 games there.”
