According to the latest market share survey from NetMarketShare, the market share for Mac OS X dipped again in August, while iOS rose a bit.
According to the report, among desktop operating systems, Mac OS X had 7.37% of the global market share in August, down from 7.87% percent in July (that’s global market share; in the US it’s over 13%). April 2016’s 9.2% was an all-time high, according to NetMarketShare’s measurements. Windows remains dominant with 90.52% as of August.
iOS had 27.20% of the mobile operating system market share in August, down from 27.84% in July. This compares to 66.87% for Android, 2.30% for Windows Phone, and 1.62% for Java ME. The all-time high for iOS was in July 2012 with 65.94%.
NetMarketShares’ monthly surveys don’t measure market share in terms of computer systems sold. Instead they sample data from visitors to some 40,000 web sites operated by their clients. And note that NetMarketShare’s numbers don’t equate to sales.
