Apple has given a statement on the issue that caused the iOS 10 update to fail over the air, and says it has now been fixed. Well, based on my experience, that’s sure not the case and I’d advise everyone NOT to upgrade to iOS 10 just yet.
Here’s Apple’s statement: “We experienced a brief problem with he software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.”
Here’s a history of my attempt to upgrade an iPhone 6s Plus to iOS 10 (based on my conversation with my AWT compadres, Steve and Marty):
1:09 pm: “After almost completing the iOS 10 download, my iPhone 6s Plus told me that it needed to be connected to my computer. I connected it to my Mac, which told me I needed to Update or Restore my software. So far, every time I try to do this, I’m told the server is unavailable. So right now my iPhone is unusable.”
1:21 pm: “I get a ‘can’t connect to iTunes Music’ message! Huh?”
1:24 pm: I tried a forced reboot with the power and home button to see if this would get things going again. Didn’t work.
1:37 pm: “Wait, wait. Now iTunes tells me that its restoring the software on this iPhone. It’s probably trying to trick me, but ….”
1:42: “iTunes tricked me. Now I get a message that says, “There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. An unknown error occurred (12).”
1:44 “Now iTunes ‘could not connect to the device.’.”
Guess I’ll have an iPhone 8 in my hands before my iPhone 6s is working again. Well, unless I make another attempt to use Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program….
