In a note to clients — as reported by MacRumors — KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple will release three iPad Pro models in 2017 (including a 10.5-inch version) and a “revolutionary” tablet in 2018.
He says that, in 2017, Apple will introduce a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro model along with a revised a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 and a “low-cost” 9.7-inch iPad model. The analyst doesn’t mention the 7.9-inch iPad mini. In 2018, Kuo predicts “revolutionary” changes for the iPad lineup with Apple making “radical” changes to the iPad’s design and shifting to an AMOLED display.
My take: it seems to me that having three sizes of an iPad Pro and a 7.9-inch iPad mini would make the line-up more confusing, when Apple should be simplifying its line-up. If Kuo is correct — and he often is — about the 10.5-inch model, then I feel the iPad mini will be discontinued. I also predict that we’ll see a revamped 12.9-inch iPad Pro this year that adds the True Tone technology introduced with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in March.
