When you think of app developers, you naturally think of Gwyneth Paltrow. Or not. Either way the Academy Award winning actress will serve as a mentor to contestants in Apple’s “Planet of the Apps,” a reality-competition series designed to showcase the iTunes App Store that is set to bow in 2017, reports Variety.
In addition, tech investor Gary Vaynerchuk and musician-entrepreneur will.iam (who was previously attached to the project) will serve as advisers., the article adds.
“Developing and launching a business based on your own original idea can be exhilarating, but intimidating,” Paltrow said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity to be part of a series that lets us use our experiences to help app developers break through and create viable businesses that will impact peoples’ lives.”
In March Apple announced that it was working with musician and actor Will.I.Am, one of the members of The Black Eyed Peas and a long-time Apple fan, on a new show that will spotlight the app economy. Will.I.Am will be working with two TV veterans, Ben Silverman and Howard Owens, to get the project off the ground. The show was described by Apple content senior VP Eddy Cue as “perfectly tailored for Apple.”
According to the Cupertino, California-based company, Planet of the Apps isn’t just a show, it’s a launch pad and accelerator for exceptional developers. Those accepted will have a chance to receive:
- Mentorship: Hands-on guidance from some of the world’s best experts in tech and entertainment.
- Funding: Those who make it to the final round will meet with top-tier VCs investing up to $10 million over the course of the season.
- Marketing and Promotion: Featured placement in the App Store at the end of the show. Also, the potential to reach millions of viewers around the world on Apple platforms.
