As noted by 9to5Mac, Austrian newspaper derStandard is reporting that Apple is close to finalizing contracts to open its first Apple Store in the country. It will be located on the upmarket shopping street Kärntner Straße in Vienna, but no opening date is mentioned in the article.
Kärntner Straße (pictured) is the most famous shopping street in central Vienna. It runs from the Stephansplatz out to the Wiener Staatsoper at Karlsplatz on the Ringstraße. The first record of Kärntner Straße is from 1257, as Strata Carintianorum, which refers to its importance as a trade route to the southern province of Carinthia.
With the opening of the store, Apple will have 488 retail stores in 21 countries and an online store available in 39 countries.
