Here are some final news nuggets from the two-hour keynote that kicked off Apple’s 2016 Worldwide Developer Conference:
- iOS 10 will feature voicemail transcriptions and a new API [application programming interface] for third-party VoIP apps. The transcription function will interpret what a caller says in text form.
- The Connect feature isn’t going away with the next revamp of Apple Music as many had predicted. However, the social feature for musicians will no longer have its own tab in the app. Instead, material from artists you follow will show up in For You.
- Fandango and Apple are teaming up to allow you to buy movie tickets in the iMessage app.
- With iOS 10, Apple will finally let you delete the default apps that comes built into the phone.
- While we wait for Apple to launch its own live streaming TV service (if it does), the company announced will offer Dish Network’s Sling TV as an app on its Apple TV platform.
Apple has launched preview sites for the new features coming in iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3, and tvOS 10. If you want to beta test the upcoming operating system updates, go to the Apple Beta Software Program site and sign up. Just remember: beta software is unfinished software so use with care.
