Apple will kick off its 2016 Worldwide Developer Conference with a keynote today at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET). Following are my predictions about what will be announced and previewed:
- Upcoming versions of macOS (which I think will replace the OS X moniker), iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Of course, this prediction is a no-brainer.
- Introduction of a Siri software development kit.
- Hints at Apple’s virtual reality plans.
- The introduction of new MacBooks and MacBook Pros, though they won’t ship until August. The MacBook Air name will be retired and we’ll simply have MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
- The launch of a 5K Retina Thunderbolt Display.
- However, my crystal balls says that we won’t see new iMacs, Mac minis, Mac Pros, Apple TVs, Apple Watches, iPhones, or iPads — or any Apple Car news. New iMacs, Apple TVs, Apple Watches, iPhones, and iPad Pros will arrive in the fall and an Apple video streaming service will arrive before the holidays. I think we’ll see new Mac Pros and Mac minis announced in September or October, but I’m doubtful about the long-term future of those products.
Come back this afternoon to see how well my crystal ball worked.
