OK, during the past week I’ve made at least two tweets in which I said I wouldn’t make any predictions about the WWDC keynote. But I’m sorry, I have been an Apple geek since 1984, I attended many of the WWDC events in the early 1990s, and I have a vested interest in the continuing success of the company — both as a business owner and as a shareholder. So here are my predictions for the upcoming keynote:
- macOS 12 is announced (no more OS X 10.12.x BS), along with tvOS 10, watchOS 3, and iOS 10
- A new, advanced Siri is demoed and announced, along with word that the 4th-generation Apple TV will act as an “Amazon Echo”-type of home intelligent assistant and that Siri will work on macOS 12. A Siri SDK will also be announced
- New HealthKit initiatives will be announced, along with word that Apple has received FDA approval to measure blood pressure with Apple Watch
- The Apple News app is updated to include video, and publishers are given details on advertising in the post-iAd era
- A single Home app to control all HomeKit-compatible devices
- Some MacBook announcements
- A new Mac Mini is unveiled to keep Peter Payne and myself happy
- Apple will talk about the impressive gains Swift has made as a development language
I have to say, though, that it’s always stupid to make predictions when an event is just two hours away… Let’s just hope for the best!
