August Doorbell Cam with HomeKit adds Siri voice commands to control the camera

August Home, Inc, a provider of smart locks and smart home access products and services, has announced that its August Doorbell Cam will support Apple HomeKit via the new Home app in iOS 10.

The Home app is deeply integrated into iOS, delivering a way to set up, manage and control your home in one place. Accessories can be managed individually or grouped into scenes so they work together with a single command and can be controlled by using Siri. They can be managed remotely or set up for home automation with Apple TV, and can respond with automatic triggers set by time of day, location or action.

The August Doorbell Cam lets consumers see and speak with visitors at their door, from anywhere, using a smartphone. Similar to the August Smart Lock, which already supports HomeKit, the Doorbell Cam with HomeKit will also support Siri voice commands. This gives customers another way to interact with their home and their August Doorbell Cam such as turning on the Doorbell Cam camera to view live activity outside their door.

New HomeKit capabilities will be added to the Doorbell Cam in the fall after the new profile is finalized and the product is certified, according to August Home CEO Jason Johnson. These features will be delivered to existing Doorbell Cam customers through a free, automatic software update.
