DeviceAtlas, a supplier of intelligence on mobile devices, has released its quarterly Mobile Web Intelligence Report for the first quarter of 2016, which analyzes mobile device traffic to hundreds of thousands of websites around the world. Not surprisingly, the report finds that Apple and Samsung devices are dominating mobile web browsing and that things look promising for the latest iPhone and for renewed growth of iOS.
DeviceAtlas says that Apple “recently surprised the mobile world by releasing a 4-inch phone, the iPhone SE, which can easily claim the title of the world’s most powerful 4-inch device.” It could be a hit as 4-inch phones are much more popular than 5.7-inch phones in all countries analyzed in the report.
In 2015 Android was more popular than iOS in terms of web traffic, but the fourth quarter report found that iOS grew faster than Android. Android maintained its leading position and grew its share in most countries DeviceAtlas analyzed, including Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, UK and the U.S. Android’s growth in these countries during the fourth quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016 oscillated between 0.5% and 6.5%, depending on the country.
The leading phone vendors in terms of web browsing share in all countries analyzed are, of course, still Samsung and Apple. In the first quarter of 2016 Samsung had the largest web traffic share in India, Nigeria, Germany, Italy and Spain, while Apple devices generated the largest amount of website visits in France, UK, Australia, Japan and the U.S.
DeviceAtlas says various iPhone models are the most popular mobile devices in many countries. In quarter one of 2016 the firm noticed that the iPhone 6 grew the most, while iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 both lost a lot of web traffic. In the Android world, the Samsung Galaxy family is by far the most popular.
