olloclip taps Kickstarter for olloclip Studio

Four years ago, olloclip sought Kickstarter support for its first accessory lenses for iPhone. That product, and successive iterations of olloclips for various iPhones and other smartphones, have been highly successful. Now the company is going back to its roots, tapping Kickstarter backers for an entirely new product called olloclip Studio

Rather than just an accessory lens kit, olloclip Studio builds on the current line of accessory lenses and the ollocase with an integrated system consisting of a case, mounts, cold shoes, and lenses. There are a number of backer levels, with “rewards” consisting of various combinations of the bits and pieces.

The olloclip Studio revolves around what is called the Studio Case. This case can be equipped with a kickstand clip or a finger clip — the latter allows users to securely hold the camera with two fingers for selfies. Add on two cold shoes for snapping on accessories, two 1/4-20 screw mounts (one for landscape orientation, one for portrait), and you have the next piece of the pie. Finally, if you already own an 4-in-1 olloclip lens or Active Lens, you can clip those onto the Studio Case for a complete photography studio — hence the name.

The addition of the cold shoes is brilliant, as it will allow photographers and filmmakers to attach accessories like LED light bars or microphones. For long-exposure photography or time-lapse, the screw mounts are a must for attaching the iPhone and case to a tripod. And the Studio Case itself is a first for olloclip, providing protection for your iPhone while you’re “on location” filming or shooting photos.

There are 30 days left in the campaign, and olloclip intends to ship the first olloclip Studio rewards in September.
