Microsoft today announced that Office 2016 for Mac is available to any Mac user who subscribes to Office 365. The new Office Suite, which consists of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote, has been totally rewritten from the ground up.
Foremost in the revamped suite is the new look, which uses the metro-style user interface to each of the apps. New features have been added, but as always, Microsoft hasn’t exactly brought the Mac version to true parity with its Windows offering. For example, while Mac users are now able to edit Word documents as a group in real time, Excel’s Quick Analysis feature still isn’t available to Mac users.
Subscriptions to Office 365 start at just US$69.99 per year. Microsoft is promising updates and new features quarterly to take away the sting of subscribing, but a separate standalone version will be available in September for those who would rather not pay an annual fee.
