As of 2 PM PT today — slightly over one day after iOS 10 first became available — iOS 10 is showing a 16.17% adoption rate. That means that of all iOS devices on the planet, over 16% have already been updated to the latest version of iOS. The numbers are generated by Mixpanel, which uses anonymized customer data to track actions across web and mobile.
Mixpanel’s VP of Engineering Joe Xavier predicts that iOS 10 will reach 50% adoption in less than 11 days, most likely on Sunday, September 25. By comparison, iOS 9 took 12 days to reach 50% and iOS 8 31 days.
Another fascinating comparison is when iOS 10 is pitted against the latest version of Android, version 6.0 “Marshmallow”. As of today, that mobile operating system has an 18.7% adoption rate — and Marshmallow was first widely released almost a year ago on October 5, 2015.
