MacCheck is new problem-solving and diagnostic utility for the Mac (and it’s free)

Micromat, the company behind the TechTool Pro line of software, has released a new troubleshooting utility called MacCheck. The new product can perform a series of critical tests on Mac systems running OS X 10.6 or higher, helping to isolate what might be wrong with a particular computer.

MacCheck is being offered free of charge and is available for download immediately. The program tests many of the critical systems in a Mac, including RAM, I/O, Volume Structures, Partition Maps, Batteries, RAID systems and more. The program allows users to quickly verify the overall health of their Mac with one click of a button, according to Micromat president Jeff Baudin.

“For many years, we always offered our free TechTool Lite product and it was very a popular way to introduce Macintosh users to troubleshooting,” he says. “We retired that product as most of the functionality became outdated with time. We see MacCheck as the heir apparent to TechTool Lite and we hope it will inspire a new generation of users to maintain and repair their own Macs and work their way up to our more professional products.”
