Will Apple’s ‘Napoleon’ conquer the box office or crash like ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’?

Thanksgiving releases and awards season contenders, Disney‘s “Wish” and Apple Original Films and Sony‘s “Napoleon” are set to open over the Wednesday to Sunday holiday stretch with respective grosses of $50 million-plus and $24 million-plus, reports Deadline. Both movies open on Thanksgiving eve, Nov. 22.

Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” is tracking with older and younger guys, and its 5-day opening is in the range of the helmer’s previous Thanksgiving 2021 launch, “House of Gucci,” which did $22 million. “Napoleon”reps Apple’s second mega wide theatrical release on a long window after Martin Scorsese’sKillers of the Flower Moonthat Paramount distributed.

That pic opened to a solid $23.2 million, but its box-office plummeted 61% in its second week of release. Which is very bad considering its budget was rumored to be around $200 million.

“Napoleon” apparently has a $130 budget. If it opens to $24 million, it better have long legs at the box office or, like “Killers,” it will lose a fortune.

About “Napoleon”

Here’s how the movie is described: Directed by Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.

The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary. An Apple Studios production in conjunction with Scott Free Productions, “Napoleon” is produced by Scott, Kevin Walsh, Mark Huffam and Phoenix, with Michael Pruss and Aidan Elliott serving as executive producers.
