In a note to clients — as reported by BGR — Haitong Securities analyst Jeff Pu says Apple plans to introduce its in-house Wi-Fi chip with the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025.
Apple’s push to replace the chips inside its devices with homegrown components will include dropping a key Broadcom Inc. part in 2025, reports Bloomberg. As part of the shift, the tech giant also aims to ready its first cellular modem chip by the end of 2024 or early 2025, the article adds.
Apple had been previously expected to replace Qualcomm modems with own this year, but development snags have pushed back the timeline, according to Bloomberg.
Apple currently uses Qualcomm modems. However, the tech giant acquired Intel’s smartphone modem business in July 2019 and added 2,200 Intel engineers to its chipset operations globally.
