Thirty-three million Apple Watches sold so far

Apple has sold 33 million Apple Watches since the launch of the line over two years ago — and 15 million in the past year, according to estimates from Asymco’s Horace Dediu. The analyst says the unit sales in the past year add up to $4.9 billion in revenue.

Dediu thinks the Apple Watch story is just beginning and compares the device to the early iPhones. In a note to clients, he writes: “The Watch was born a timepiece but it is traversing through the early iPhone and pulling in a new direction all of its own.”

Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 3 on Sept. 12. Some models have built-in cellular and allow users to stay connected, make calls, receive texts and more, even without an iPhone nearby.
