The TIC Report: The Apple Watch Pro

I’m a runner who uses his Apple Watch to log running times and distances. Alas, like many folks past the age of 50, I suffer from presbyopia (which has nothing to do with Presbyterians). It’s farsightedness caused by loss of elasticity of the lens of the eye, occurring typically in middle and old age.

Which means that sometimes I have to squint to see the display on my Apple Watch while I’m running, even though I have the bigger (42mm) model. Needless to say, that’s inconvenient. CEO Tim Cook is several years younger than me, but he may also have presbyopia.

Enter the Apple Watch Pro, which is now in testing (I’m wearing a prototype in the pic). Forget 42mm. This baby has a 6.5 x 7 inch screen. No more squinting to see the display on this smartwatch.

Apple says the normal sized Apple Watch has an “all day battery life.” With its super-sized body and accompanying larger battery, the Apple Watch Pro has an “all week battery life.”

It will also be able to connect directly to cellular networks, a move designed to reduce reliance on the iPhone. Heck with its biggie-sized screen, you don’t even need an iPhone, perhaps not even an iPad. The screen is big enough to watch videos.

One note of caution: you’re advised to switch the Apple Watch Pro from your right wrist to the left wrist (or vice versa) every two hours. If not, you’re going to end up with one bicep much bigger than the other.

By the way, this is an entry in the TIC (Tongue-in-Cheek) reports that will run whenever the spirit moves me.
