The Power Pad is a sturdy, powerful, flexible iPhone wireless charger

While we’re waiting (and waiting and waiting) for Apple’s AirPower charger, the competition is heating up. Case (or Case-Mate) in point: the Power Pad from Case-Mate.

The AirPower will be able to charge a Qi-compatible iPhone, an Apple Watch, and a pair of AirPods (in a special wireless charging case) at the same time regardless of where they’re placed on the pad. It hasn’t been priced yet, but guesses have it costing anywhere from $150 – $200. 

The Power Pad costs $60 and charges Qi-enabled devices — but only one at a time, so there’s that. Still, the Case-Mate device engages Qi-enabled devices at the highest charging speeds possible, including 7.5W of power for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

The Power Pad also includes a stand designed to be used on a table, desk, or countertop, to display your device in portrait or landscape view. This allows yo to check incoming texts or emails, answer the phone, follow a recipe, set a timer, or stream video — all while your iPhone is charging. However, the iPhone shaped charging pad is separate from the stand, so you have have the iPhone lay flat if you wish. That’s especially useful if you’re charging your smartphone on a bedside table.

A “soft” LED light indicator confirms that your device is indeed charging. And  base grips on its bottom keeps the Power Pad from sliding around.

If you want to be able to charge multiple Apple devices, wait for the AirPower. If you simply want a sturdy, powerful, and flexible wireless charger, don’t wait, save yourself some moolah, and go with the Case-Mate charger.
