The LG UltraFine 5K is the display Apple promotes for its new MacBook Pros

At today’s “hello, again” event, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke of Apple teaming with LG to offer a 27-inch 5K Retina display to go along with the new MacBook Pros. It’s the LG UltraFine 5K Display. It will set you back $1,299 and will be available in December.

The LG UltraFine 5K Display — which is 18.3 inches high, 24.6 inches wide, 9.4 inches deep, and weighs 18.7 pounds — boasts a 27.inch, 5120-by-2880 resolution, 14.7 million pixels, P3 wide color gamut, and 500 cd/m² of brightness. A single Thunderbolt 3 cable (included) provides up to 85W of charging power to your MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. And three downstream USB-C ports (5 Gbps) offer additional connectivity and power to compatible devices and accessories.

The LG UltraFine 5K Display also sports built-in stereo speakers, camera, and microphone deliver a rich media experience. You connect the display to your MacBook Pro via an included Thunderbolt 3 cable, which supports 5K video, audio, and data simultaneously — all while supplying up to 85W of charging power to your laptop. With macOS integration, you can control volume and brightness without the need for physical buttons.

You can also use the adjustable stand to create a personalized environment for work or play. Or disconnect the stand and mount the display on your preferred VESA arm using the provided VESA cover.

Sounds nice. Perhaps it will help alleviate the pain of not seeing a 27-inch, 5K Thunderbolt Display replacement with GPU integration that some folks were expecting.

If the LG UltraFine 5K Display is too rich for your blood, there’s also a 21.5-inch, UltraFine 4K Display for $699.99.
