Taiwan is in line to get Apple Pay

Digitimes reports that Taiwan is one of the next countries in line to get Apple Pay, Apple’s mobile payment service, possibly by the end of the year. The country’s CTBC Bank, Cathay United Commercial Bank, E.SUN Commercial Bank and Taishin International Bank are expected to support the service.

Apple Pay is now available in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, Switzerland, China, and Singapore. Apple has hinted that Spain and Hong Kong are also in line to get Apple Pay at some point this year (Spain currently supports it for Amex only). CEO Tim Cook also recently spoke about plans to bring the mobile payment system to India, while France, Japan and Brazil are also expected to add Apple Pay support in the near future.

Apple Pay is compatible with the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, and Apple Watch. Mobile and wearable contactless payments could hit $95 billion by 2018, with Apple leading the way to help develop the sector, according to new research from Juniper Research.
