Tablo —which makes a DVR box that lets you watch, record, and stream broadcast TV — has released an app for the Apple TV that allows you to watch broadcast television, either live or on-demand, though you will need a separate antenna.
The app is free. However, to use it you’ll need either a Tablo 2-Tuner DVR ($219.99) or a Tablo 4-Tuner TV ($299.99). Both are over-the-air DVR boxes the provide access to broadcast TV signals.
Tablo includes a 30 day trial of the company’s EPG subscription. After this you can choose to continue the subscription for $4.99 monthly, $49.99 annually or $149.99 for a lifetime subscription. Subscriptions are tied to your account and not the device, so you can add as many Tablo units as you’d like to your subscription or change your Tablo unit at any time. You can use a Tablo unit without subscription, but you’ll be missing some features. Learn more about Tablo’s EPG subscription here.
