Apple journalist Mark Gurman has tweeted that Apple employees can now buy up to 10 HomePods (previously, the limit was two) with their discount, so “these things are clearly on the way out.”
That, and the fact that Best Buy is offering the smart speaker for US$199.99 this week ($100 off) leads MacRumors to believe that smaller, lower-priced HomePods are increasingly closer to launching. Apple’s smaller HomePod will likely have two tweeters, down from seven in the current model, according to previous reports by Gurman.
For the past two years, there have been rumors of a “HomePod mini” that would cost between $150 and $200. If such a speaker arrives, will Apple continue to sell the current sized HomePod. Personally, I’d like to see the tech giant introduce a bigger “HomePod Pro” that could serve as a viable home theater speaker.
