Shazam updated to support Apple Music Classical on the iPhone

Apple has updated Shazam to version 15.33, adding support for Apple Music Classical on the iPhone.

From Apple’s release notes: “You can now open classical songs from Shazam in the Apple Music Classical app. Simply Shazam or search for a classical song, tap the menu icon on the track page and select “Open in Classical.”

Apple Music Classical is now available for download at the App Store. Here’s how Apple describes the free app: Get the app designed specifically for classical music. Available to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost. Instantly find any recording in the world’s largest classical music catalog with search built for the genre. Enjoy the highest audio quality available (up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless) and hear classical favorites like never before in spatial audio, all with zero ads.

Apple Music Classical also makes it easy for beginners to get acquainted with the genre thanks to hundreds of Essentials playlists, insightful composer biographies, deep-dive guides for many key works, and intuitive browsing features.

Requirements

• Requires an Apple Music subscription (Individual, Student, Family, or Apple One). Not available with the Apple Music Voice Plan.

• Apple Music Classical is available for all iPhone models running iOS 15.4 or later.

  • To listen to music on Apple Music Classical, you must have an internet connection.

Shazam is a music recognition app that Apple acquired in 2018 for US$400. Last year it passed 200 monthly active users worldwide. It’s available as a standalone app and as a built-in feature on the iPhone and iPad.
