Rumor: the iPhone will link with AR/VR headsets

A report from the Israeli website The Verifier — as noted by The MacObserver — says the upcoming “iPhone 8” will include an iPad Pro-like smart connector that may be the link up for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality headsets. The article adds that the smart connector will also be used for charging, sort of like MagSafe for the iPhone.

The Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) says this isn’t going to happen. I do think the next gen iPhone will have AR features and a smart connector, but I don’t think Apple has any plans for AR/VR headsets at this point in time. Instead, I think the iPhone 8 will have AR features available directly from its display.
