Apple leaker Jon Prosser says that Apple is testing new iPhone 13 Face ID hardware that will work with masks and foggy glasses.
“Internally, for testing purposes only, Apple has developed a prototype case that fits around iPhone 12 that they are using to test a new Face ID array,” he says. “The case fits snug around the phone, with a very visible extra sensor array sitting above the device. This prototype case allows the iPhone 12 to bypass the regular Face ID array, in favor of using the new hardware within the case.”
The Sellers Research Group says such a Face ID feature makes sense. However, I don’t expect to see it when the iPhone 13 is released (probably next month). The feature could perhaps be implemented by a software update. Else, it might have to wait until the iPhone 14.
