Rumor: Apple’s streaming video service may launch by mid-April (AppleFlix, anyone?)

Apple’s streaming video service could launch by mid-April, according to The Information. The article says the tech giant has told companies tapped to air shows that this is the planned launch of the service.

Apple currently has 28 scripted series in the works. The company also has also acquired at least three movies. Whether they’ll be released on the streaming service (let’s call it AppleFlix) or the big screen is uncertain.

Also uncertain is what the pricing will be. Some rumors have said that the streaming service will be free to owners of Apple devices. Others have said it would be bundled with Apple Music and a magazine/news subscription service.

Chances AppleFlix will launch in mid-April, according to the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 90%. It’s been in the works for a long time, so why not? As for pricing, I think Apple will go with a subscription model, not any sort of free model, as the company is hoping for substantial growth with its various Services products. They include, so far, things such as Apple Music, AppleCare, Apple Pay, and revenues from its app stores.
