Rumor: ‘Apple Glasses’ will sport Wi-Fi 6E support for higher bandwidth

In a note to clients — as noted by 9to5Mac — analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the rumored “Apple Glasses” — an augmented reality/virtual reality device — will feature Wi-Fi 6E support for higher bandwidth and low latency.

He says one of the biggest issues with mixed-reality headsets right now is the requirement for a wired connection to a computer. To avoid these problems and give users a better experience, Kuo says Apple’s headset is expected to support Wi-Fi 6/6E protocol.

Along the same lines, in his latest “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple will release the rumored “Apple Glasses” — an augmented reality/virtual reality head-mounted display —- next year.

He describes it as a “pricey device with advanced chips, displays, sensor, and avatar-based features.” Gurman doesn’t mention price, but other reports have put it at up to US$2,000.

When it comes to Apple Glasses, such a device will arrive in 2022 or 2023, depending on which rumor you believe. It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Apple Glasses may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that Apple Glasses could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.”
