Rumor: 2018 iPhone line-up could include a model with a six-inch-plus display

The Korea Herald reports that Apple’s 2018 lineup of iPhones could (and “could’ is probably the operative word here), include a larger LCD model measuring over sixinches with the panel coming from Japan Display.

The new device joins the previously rumored 5.8-inch and 6.46-inch OLED models with panels supplied by Samsung. The Korea Herald says Apple likely won’t switch to all OLED panels until 2019, which is when LG should have the production capacity to help minimize Apple’s dependence on Samsung. 

OLED is made up of many tiny LEDs, each emitting their own light and colors. They don’t require an “always on” backlight, as each LED can be on or off as needed, and emitting the right kind of light needed to create the images you’re seeing. Supporters of the technology praise its high contrast/deep blacks and potential thickness and power consumption advantages.
