Reelgood, a U.S. movie and TV streaming search engine, has issued a report on how COVID-19 and social distancing have affected streaming behaviors for its two million-plus users. The news isn’t that great for Apple TV+.
Here’s some key points of the Reelgood report:
° Netflix is undeniably the most popular streaming service among consumers right now, snagging a share of almost 42% of all total playback for the past three (3) weeks. Prime Video follows with 22.13%, Hulu 17.19%, and Disney+ is not even close with only 4.81% share. Apple TV+ has only 1.92%, but it’s still ahead of IMDb TV (1.87%), Sony Crackle (1.85%), Vudu (1.59%) and PopcornFlix (0.72%).
° Sign-ups for streaming service aggregator Reelgood went up by 99.3% this week compared to the first week of March. California was responsible for the biggest percentage, 13.30% of all sign-ups within the past three weeks. It was followed by Texas and New York City.
° Streaming activity more than doubled this week compared to the first week of March (more specifically, a solid 101% increase in streams/playback).
° Consumers are now officially streaming more content during business hours vs off hours. For the last seven days, 51% of all playback were logged between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. of each day
Reelgood allows users to aggregate their streaming services in one place. Its offerings include Amazon Prime, FX, HBO, Hulu, Netflix, Showtime, Starz, Apple TV+, Disney +, and more.
