‘RealityPro’ may debut this year, though its engineering/design team purportedly want to wait

The Financial Times is reporting (and a subscription is required to read the article) that Apple CEO Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams are pushing for the rumored “Reality Pro” to launch this year, though some engineers working on it don’t think that’s a good idea.

The rumored augmented reality/virtual reality headset is likely to debut at this summer’s Worldwide Developer Conference. However, per the FT, the RealityPro design team want to wait until a lightweight headset is possible, while Cook and Williams want to roll it out this year even if it’s a bulky, expensive device.

When it comes to the RealityPro, the rumors are abundant. Such a device will arrive this year. Or 2025, Or 2026. It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Reality Pro may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that it could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.” Or perhaps “xrOS” for extended reality operating system.
