Prediction: we’ll see the AirPower, new iPod touch announced before week’s end

The Wall Street Journal says Apple approved production of the long-awaited AirPower earlier this year after facing challenges with developing the accessory. So I’m predicting that we’ll see the wireless charger go on sale either Thursday or Friday.

If it’s announced on Thursday, look for a new iPod touch to be announced on Friday. If the AirPower is announced on Friday, the iPod touch will be announced on Thursday. This would be in keeping with Apple’s daily announcements leading up to its March 25 “It’s Show Time” event

The AirPower — which was first announced over two years ago — will be able to charge a Qi-compatible iPhone, an Apple Watch, and a pair of AirPods (in a special wireless charging case) at the same time regardless of where they’re placed on the pad. AirPower hasn’t been priced yet, but guesses have it costing anywhere from $150 – $200.

The last time the iPod touch, the last remaining member of the iPod family, was updated was in July 2015. You can currently buy the 32GB version for $199 and the 128GB model for $299, so it remains the less expensive way to access Apple Services such as iTunes, Apple Music, etc. — and the tech giant is betting big on Services revenue.
