Pop artist’s lawsuit against Apple is dismissed by a Miami court

A lawsuit filed by pop artist Romero Britto against Apple and a design firm claiming misuse of his distinctive images and colorful style has been dismissed, report the Miami Herald. Miami federal court documents show the 2015 lawsuit was dropped last week. No details were provided, but all parties will pay their own costs, notes the Herald.

In April 2015 Britto sued Apple for using Craig & Karl artwork in its “Start Something New” ad campaign. He claimed the ad campaign mimicked the design style that he’s famous for.

Apple used a Craig & Karl image featuring a patchwork hand on a bright yellow background on one of the iPads in the graphics used to promote the “Start Something New” campaign. There was even a profile of Craig & Karl on Apple’s describing how the image was made on an iPad Air 2 using iOS apps.
