“Oprah Conversation,’ ‘1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything’ win Critics Choice Real TV Awards

Apple TV+ has earned two Critics Choice Real TV Awards for Oprah Winfrey’s  talk series “The Oprah Conversation,” which took home the prize for Best Structured Series, and the docuseries “1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything,” which was awarded Best Limited Documentary Series. 

The Critics Choice Real TV Awards recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

The NAACP Image Award-nominated “The Oprah Conversation” is a series that features Oprah leading intimate discussions with newsmakers, thought leaders and masters of their craft. Recent guests have included Elliot Page, Eddie Murphy, Amanda Gorman, Barack Obama, Dolly Parton and Stevie Wonder.

“1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything” explores the musicians and soundtracks that shaped the culture and politics of 1971. The docuseries provides  archival footage and interviews. It shows how the musical icons of the time were influenced by the changing tides of history – and, in turn, how they used their music to inspire hope, change and the culture around them. 

“1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything” examines the most iconic artists and songs that we still listen to 50 years later, including The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Joni Mitchell, Lou Reed and more.

The eight-part docuseries hails from Universal Music Group’s (UMG) Mercury Studios in association with On The Corner Films. Academy, BAFTA and Grammy Award winner Asif Kapadia (“Amy,” “Senna”) serves as series director and executive producer alongside James Gay-Rees (“Amy,” “Senna,” “Exit Through the Gift Shop”), David Joseph and UMG’s Adam Barker. Chris King serves as editor and executive producer. Danielle Peck is series producer and directs alongside James Rogan.

All eight episodes of “1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything” are available to stream on Apple TV+.
