Notable apps and app updates for Oct. 27, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

AK Arts has launched Shark Pool in which you play a shark who must bounce and chomp to protect your home. In the free game, pesky humans have build a swimming pool above your cave and spend their days sunbathing on rafts, tossing around a beach ball, and drinking sofa. Your goal: defend your cave from the invaders

macOS Apps/Updates

FxFactory has released XEffects Viral Video Thirds, a new Final Cut Pro X plugin developed by partner Idustrial Revolution. 

This plugin is based on splitting the screen into thirds, adding graphical overlays and using dynamic transitions to animate between the “third composites.” The combination of masks, titles and transitions all work together with thirds.

XEffects Viral Video Thirds is distributed on the FxFactory app store. It ‘s being launched at a discounted price of $39 until Nov. 7.

FileMaker, Inc. has announced availability of the latest version of FileMaker Cloud, its cloud platform for managing and running custom apps. With this release, FileMaker Cloud joins the FileMaker 16 Platform and it is available in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Australia.

For organizations that want to develop and manage custom mobile apps, FileMaker Cloud offers rapid deployment, low capital expenditure and instant scalability – all with minimal administrative overhead, according to Ann Monroe, vice president of worldwide marketing and customer success. This offering builds on the commitment from FileMaker, Inc. to empower organizations of all sizes to improve business operations through custom app solutions, she adds. 

FileMaker Cloud runs on the Amazon Web Services Cloud. The new release offers these integration, security and development features.

Isle of the Kakapo has rolled out RailModeller Pro 5.4, an update to their model railroad and slot car layout design solution for macOS. 

RailModeller Pro offers sophisticated design tools that enable hobbyists to easily design model train and slot car track layouts via drag & drop. The app includes a library catalog covering over 200 track systems in all major model scales as well as scalable accessories, allowing for custom designs of any layout a user can visualize. Version 5.4 includes: fully localized library names and element descriptions; scalable libraries for all model scales; and multi-color elements.

RailModeller Pro requiem macOS 10.10 or later. It’s available for $39.99 at the Mac App Store. A free version, RailModeller Express, which is suitable for smaller layouts with a limited number of tracks, is also available.
