Notable apps and app updates for May 23, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

iThinkdiff has introduced Njump 1.0. To avoid enemies and obstacles, players in the free game must guide Ninja by make the right jump at the right time. Currently there are six missions, each designed with different kinds of obstacles and enemies. Other than the first mission, all other missions are locked. If the player can score a 15 mile distance in the first mission, then the second mission will be unlocked. All other missions follow the same metaphor.

Facebook introduced the Like button seven years ago, and now Sickweather has introduced the Sympathy button for their public health social networking platform called Sickweather Groups. It represents a hand offering a bouquet of flowers with a heart on its sleeve. The free app appears on messages and reports of illness within Sickweather Groups, and includes an animation.

Physicians working with patients being evaluated and treated for type 2 diabetes now have access to an in-depth, point-of-care app, compliments of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the American College of Endocrinology (ACE). Derived from the 2016 AACE/ACE Comprehensive Type 2 Diabetes Algorithm (an updated supplement to the 2015 AACE/ACE Clinical Practice Guidelines for Developing a Diabetes Mellitus Comprehensive Care Plan), the app offers practical clinical guidance about the patient’s spectrum of risks and complications and evidence-based approaches to treatment.

Mac OS X Apps/Updates

Isle of the Kakapo has released RailModeller Pro 5.1, an update to their model railroad and slot car layout design solution for Mac OS X (10.8 or later).

RailModeller Pro offers design tools that enable hobbyists to design model train and slot car track layouts via drag and drop. The app includes a library catalog covering over 200 track systems in all major model scales, allowing for custom designs of almost any layout a user can visualize.

Version 5.1 adds native support for tunnel sections, including the automatic creation of tunnel portals between plain and tunnel tracks. This is designed to make it easy to distinguish visible track sections from tracks running underground. The update also adds Layer-Defaults that optionally provide default values for elements newly inserted into a layer.

RailModeller Pro 5.1 is available for $39.99 exclusively through the Mac App Store in the Graphics and Design category. A free version, RailModeller Express,  which is suitable for small layouts with a limited number of tracks and layout dimensions of up to 0.5km – is also available through the Mac App Store in the Graphics and Design category.

A totally new and compelling way to locate duplicates and eliminate them from your Mac. Learn How.
